What is Vinyasa Yoga

Traditionally yoga was practiced to prepare our bodies to sit comfortably in the lotus position for meditation without any pain or discomfort to cause distraction. It is a series of movements designed to move and work all the parts of our bodies. It opens you up, increasing overall flexibility and strength. At the same time it helps quiet the thoughts in our minds by focusing on the breath and physical posture.

Yoga is not a religion. Yes, it is rooted in the practice of Hinduism but in my extended travels in India I rarely met a Hindu who practiced yoga. It's a way to disconnect from the rest of the world and connect with yourself. You need not change your beliefs or the way you live your life. Just make some time for yourself and everything else will follow.

I practice vinyasa yoga, which literally means to flow. You move your body continuously from one posture to the next, holding each one for about a minute. It's very dynamic and more physically challenging than traditional hatha yoga.

I practice yoga because it just makes me feel better. I was looking for something I could do to take better care of myself without the boredom of the gym and with more benefits than normal exercise. Yoga has not only changed my body but I'm a calmer and more relaxed person because of it. If you are looking for a change in yourself yoga is a great place to start.
